Practical Living - Intermediate Practical Living is a Life Skills class for dogs covering topics needed for everyday life. This course will concentrate on training related to regular day to day experiences in all types of environments. In this class, we build on the foundations learned in Family Dog Beginners and challenge our dogs to become even more well mannered so that they are welcome anywhere. It will also help prepare your dog for the Canine Good Neighbour test or for going into Therapy work if this is your goal. Included in this course are maintaining a solid stand stay, impulse control, appropriate meet and greet, sending them to their bed, coming away from a distraction, backing out of the way, doorway etiquette, emergency stays and more. An e-booklet is included. Prerequisite: Family Dog Beginners or equivalent group obedience class taken elsewhere. If you took an equivalent class elsewhere, we will assess skill level at lesson 1. Teaching your dog to come back to you when called is one of the most challenging things for a dog to learn. There are so many interesting things that they can check out. Having a rock solid recall ensures that your dog can have more freedom while still being safe. Practice makes perfect but it is also tons of fun. To achieve this, we work on a number of different exercises so that your dog wants to come running back to you, even from major distractions such as toys, food, other dogs and things that move. Dog and handler move through a series of numbered stations. Each station has a different sign with a set of instructions for the dog and handler team to complete. One of the best things about Rally is that your dog never knows what's coming next. This keeps them constantly engaged with you. This course is great for keeping up your obedience skills and improving heeling. Some of the exercises that are covered include: Pivots, Fronts, Weave Once, Slow Pace, Fast Pace, Spiral Right, Spiral Left, Walk Around and more. This class is great for all breeds of all ages. It's especially good for seniors as it exercises their brain and body. Prerequisite: Practical Living Intermediate or equivalent group obedience class taken elsewhere. Having your dog walk nicely on leash is another one of the most difficult things for your dog to learn. Unlike us, a dog sees the world through their nose. This is why they want to sniff everything in the environment while out on a walk. In order to help them see why walking on a loose leash makes us happy, we need to show them the value in doing so. To achieve this we work on a number of different exercises so that they want to remain with us when they see dogs, people or other distractions.
