Family Dog - Beginners Course Length: 6 weeks Course Fee: $208.00 incl gst Welcoming all friendly dogs over 15 weeks of age, with current vaccinations. This very popular course covers the basics. Theories used and taught are based on positve "marker" based instruction. Clicker given and taught, but not mandatory. Family Dog is taught in a fun and informative manner, and includes a practical night and a games night. This is a great follow up course to any previously taken Puppy Preschool classes. By using basic training knowledge, this course will guide you towards living with your canine friend in your home, and out in the community. Having our dogs lie beside us while we are reading the paper and drinking our coffee is just one of the goals. There will be lots of work on recalls and loose leash heeling. Loose Leash Walking - Come from a Play Group - Food Bowl Etiquette - Jumping Up - Boundary Training - Meet and Greet - Lots of distraction training will be included. This course will add to your repertoire of obedience skills. We will work with both verbal instruction and hand signals. This is also a great way to prepare for Agility or Rally-Obedience. This course is great for all dogs over the age of 4 months of age, regardless of their experience. It can be done before obedience work, after obedience work or even taken at the same time. For all dogs, at all levels, getting attention from your dog is the key to success. Dogs who are looking and listenting to their people will be much easier to teach in the long run. In order to achieve that, we must learn to reward our dogs in the absence of misbehaviour. Some leash walking is involved, otherwise this course will revolve solely around attention work. Prerequisite: No prior training needed. Dogs of all ages (over 4 months) are welcome as long as they are friendly with other dogs and people. : Leave it - Advanced Leave it - leave it while on walks or while playing - volontary attention - looking away from distractions. This course will delve into exercises geared to improve your dog's walk on lead. This is a course with all the focus toward walking nicely on lead....loose lead walking and heeling. Attention while moving, focus, and watching you and working as a team will all be addressed. There will be lots of work on getting your dog to work on, and stay on, your left side. Great for all dogs whether they are family pets or sprucing up for obedience trials. This course is great for Rally Obedience students at any level, to improve and practice their heeling skills.
